I've never encountered this situation before, so any help or advise would be appreciated.

A friend has a Dell PIII 800 (original drives..2 CD's..1 Zip..4 to 5 USB devices attached..etc) He purchased a Radeon 9500 graphics card that requires a 300+ watt PS. Needless to say his current PS is somewhat less than adequate. Max wattage output 135

Does anyone forsee any problems dropping in a 300+ watt PS in the box as it sits now. I would hate to fry the board or one of the drives

Thanks in Advance

NO!! Don't do it!!!

Dell has almost always had proprietary power supplies, they may look like normal ATX but they have a different pin layout! If you drop a regular on in there you will fry something!!!!

So mjc you saying Dell doesn't produce a 300W Psu??

you can get an adapter that will alow standard ATX psu to work.. most are dell dimensions.http://www.endpcnoise.com/e/images/items/dellconverter.jpg

If it will work on your model if not you can spend big bucks for a dell psu

Budfred...I'm just going by what I have read I won't work on proprietary machines Won't even take one in the shop so I have never tried one of these..Right click on the pic and go to that site and you should find the info on this..

An adapter might get it done, of course a big $$ Dell PSU should do it too. Any way a standrd PSU most likely won't.
