WEll after doing a bit of seaching I found that my BIOS is using Award Modular BIOS V6.00PG version 2-2 and apparently there is a newer verion for it 2-3. Would did make a difference it the way my PC operates? As well I am wondering if there is such a thing as a motherboard upgrade? My motherboard is P6IWT-ME ver 1.16 dated 08/30/1999.
Any ideas or advise? Thanks in advance!!
Cheers,

Hi;
Generally, if the pc is running fine and you are not thinking of any upgrades to the system, then flashing the bios is not necessary.
In your case, it looks like you are thinking of an upgrade, then consider the fastest processor that your machine will handle, or just increasing or updating the memory can make quite a difference. Memory is pretty cheap.
What is your system hardware config. now?
Upgrading the bios, is usually done to fix problems you are having, such as specific issues - Y2K, for example, or handling larger hard drives.
I suggest that you consider your options, based on what you want to spend. In any case, the following link should give you an idea about your motherboard and your options, as well as specific issues that flashing the bios will deal with. If none of these issues pertain to you and you have limited cash, think about a memory upgrade. See the following link;

You can also get an idea about memory prices by using the memory config. utility at the following link

I like this site, as you can find what types of memory your system can use, then search for the memory upgrade that you prefer at the best prices.
By the way, have you been using scandisk and defrag and disk cleanup? Just using these windows utilities can increase performance alone!

Sylvie-- If you located a BIOS upgrade it should also list the problems that the upgrade is trying to correct. Or improve upon. Flashing a BIOS isn't for the faint hearted. But it doesn't take a rocket scientist if a person will just follow directions. No three strike rule here. You only get one. System freeze are an entirely different problem. Almost a multitude of things causes a freeze. Begin by asking "what have I added to this thing lately?"
