Hi, I just baught a new system from this guy; A 1.4Ghz AMD athlon. The thing is I don't really know if the guy who made my PC used the real 1.4GHZ AMD CPU.

What I'm trying to say here is simple, Can the guy who built my PC (knowing that I'm a dumbass) rip me off and just over clocked a 1Ghz AMD CPU to 1.4Ghz? Because from what i understand is that the bus speed of my mother board is 266mhz (asus m761 motherboard 266mhz 100% SURE) and when I try to configure it to 266MHZ, the highest bios bus speed that appear is 133mhz. Is this normal or did I get ripped off? PLEASE, PLEASE HELP! HOW DO I FIGURE OUT IF MY CPU IS OVER CLOCKED WITHOUT OPENING AND BREAKING MY PC *Remember I'm a dumbass,I'm afraid i might break my computer so any ideas?
Also what is going on with my bus speed ???? Anyone know how to change it to 266mhz from 133mhz?
THANKS

it is at 266! if it's showing in the bios at 133, then don't fool with it!
The front side bus is the " path " between the processor and the main memory, overclocking is resetting the fsb and what are called multipliers . If you have doubts as to what he has built you, then you can check the mother board manual for the correct settings for a stock 1.4 processor.

Go here (http://www.maximumpc.com/reprint/archives/archive3b.html) for a quick guide on overclocking. I DO NOT recommend you attempt this!

Thpought i would add that if you go to tweakfiles (http://www.tweakfiles.com) and look for a program called" wcpuid ", it'll tell you info on your procesor including your fsb. hope this has helped you some, and if you discover he did oc you; then i would immediately confont him-incorrect overclocking can ruin EVERYTHING in you computer! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/eek.gif leaving you with one expensive paperweight!

Big Fellow -- Try this. Re-boot PC. On the Initial screen that comes up hit the pausebutton. Right above the memory count, posted on the screen, should be the ID of your processor in MHz. Also, while you are over at tweakfiles you might download SiSandra. It'll give you some excellent information concerning components inside your 'puter. Have an awesome day!
