I am running Windows 2k Professsional with an Asus Motherboard. I just bought a Zoom Model# 3049 V.92 external serial modem which works great until I reboot my system, then Windows doesn't even see it. I have to reinstall the modem again which works fine until the next reboot. The device is gone completely from Device manager et al. Zoom doesn't have any new drivers for it, I have the onboard modem selection in bios setup disabled, and I haven't been able to find any additional information on this. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks

hi;

Have you submited a question to Zoom tech support (as Zoom tech support)on this problem? This model may be new enough that some recent issues have surfaced - tech support may have an answer.

I don't know much about Win 2K, but does the operating system recognize the modem - are you using the drivers in the cd supplied with the modem, or letting win 2k install the drivers?

I would use the drivers on the cd, they usually are more reliable and up-to-date than those sometimes supplied with the operating system. Or, (I will contradict myself) if you are using the ones supplied on the cd rom, letting win 2k install there own drivers to see what happens.

I would also check to see in the control panel/system to see if there are any conflicts with other hardware - other devices that win is letting share the same resources.

Having this above information available will also assist tech support in solving the problem. I looked at tech support for Zoom, as you said nada!

Thanks for the reply. I have contacted Zoom tech support and they told me to check out Microsoft's page (bogus). The operating system recognizes the modem after an install but loses it on reboot. It works great when installed, it's just the loss after a reboot then I have to install again. Windows doesn't have drivers for this modem, it is too new. I'm going to swap Com ports and see what happens. If the same thing, I'll contact ASUS and Microsoft and Zoom again, then I'll get another stinking modem. Shame, this modem works better than any other modem I've had (when it works).
