Hi. I have two peripherals that connect to my computer via the printer port. It is a hassle to unhook my printer and hook up the other device all of the time. Is there a way to hook both up through a splitter or something. Thank you.

Yes, Quite easily actually, Misty.
Have a look in your local computer outlet for a switchbox. There are two, three and four way versiona available for about £10-12 (UK prices) Alternatively, any of the on-line retailers of computers or electronics would carry this item.
All you need is a two way switch, and an additional cable between the parallel port on your computer and the switchbox.

Bear in mind that laser printers don't like this sort of setup though - neither do some of the more recent inkjets. This is because they will only function with ECP parallel cables/ports. Basically they want to be in communication with the PC at all times, and sulk if they aren't.
If you have a printer like this, make sure you buy a FULLY wired switch - it will probably say ECP compliant or some such thing.
Then you MUST switch one of the devices OFF (the main power switch on the device) BEFORE using the switch to change to the other peripheral.
THe other choice is to add a second parallel port, which can be bought as PCI cards, and slot in the PCI bus as normal - then one will be LPT1, and the other LPT2, and both can run happily side by side.

Deddard is right on.
Get a second parallel port card and your problems will be solved....

I tried the switch box idea first because it was given to me. Had nothing but trouble with the HP laser printer. Got a second LPT on pci card and everything is great. Best option of the 2 if you have a free pci slot.
