I just put together my new computer. It powers up fine but nothing happens. I dont get any beeps, nothing messages go onto the screen. The first time I turned it on it beeped but it doesnt anymore. I looked at my cpu(athlon) and found that some thermal compound got on the ceramic part, and a little bit got on one of the gold parts on top. So now Im wondering if that has anything to do with why nothing happens. And I have double checked all connections. My speaker is plugged in, video card is seated properly, floppy drive is connected and powered, same with hard drive. Pleas Help!

Sounds like it might be shorting out. Put the mobo on a non-metallic surface with only the CPU, video card, RAM and your keyboard. If it boots, that's it. If not, post your setup specs (CPU, mobo, video, ETC. Your power supply may not be up to the requirements for the athlon. Is it AMD approved? What is the wattage?

Ok, tried taking the motherboard out, and trying it from there still no go. Heres my system specs

athlon 1.4
motherboard - Tyan Trinity KT-A(S2390B)
case/psu - Antec case with 300 w power supply
256mb pc 133
radeon video card
30 gb western digital hard drive
teach floppy drive

Another thing thats weird is that I can turn the computer on through the power switch but it wont turn off. Is there any way that the thermal compound on the wrong parts of my processor could have damage the processor?
