Has anyone ever had a Hard drive make a little "snap-pop" sound and then just lockup and die?

I have a 5 year old WD36400 6.4gig just fail. No spin up, drive motor seized and smelling "hot".....

Just wanted to know if anyone else has seen this type of failure...?

No, I haven't had that kind of failure, but it sounds like either the motor or the bearings...
