View Full Version : Troja Horse Dialer redux
from the states

I recently posted that I had a Trojan Horse Dialer virus and AVG killed it. I then asked if I could safely uninstall the program and was told to use Spybot - Search and Destroy. I used it and it removed the culprit "Rapid Blaster."
HOWEVER...I now continue to get a warning that the Dialer Virus is a resident in my system. I ran the programs again but no record of it shows up. What next?

I would go to mjc's security thread and access one or more of the online scans to check for any trace of that virus. It may simply be a piece of it, but it may also be that it has screwed with your antivirus program so that it can hide (apparently not entirely successfully). In many cases of viral infection the best solution is to grit your teeth, zero out your hard drive and reinstall. They can be real hard to get out completely.
Another option would be to make a set of antivirus disks from an updated copy on a known clean computer, write protect the disks and then use them to check/clean your system.
mjc's thread:

and by the way, it would have made more sense to post this thread in that forum....
What version of Windows?
If you are running XP or ME you may need to purge your system restore directory.
Also since SSD makes backups of spyware (and it isn't really a trojan, it is spyware), you may need to purge the SSD backup directory to get it stop.
