I bought a cheap mouse a month or so ago, has been driving me nuts. So I finally went out a forked out 20 bucks for a logitech optical mouse. If you don't own an optical mouse, go out and buy one today. Don't wait. I swear, we don't always measure the power of our computer systems by how fast the entire system works. I am working so much faster with this new mouse. Less frustration, extremely accurate, awesome. Right up there with adding a faster hdd or extra memory. I like the software that came with the logitech. There might be better, but their default settings are great, i.e., rate of acceleration, speed of mouse, etc. One of those purchases that I should have done years ago. I can't believe it. Goodnight Gracie.

I agree. I hate using non optical mice now. Optical is so smooth! I also like the scroll button and webwheel feature of my logitech mouse. In fact I have this site programmed into my mouse webwhell feature. click the scroll button, click PC Guide and presto.

I got a Logitech Elite Duo about a month or so ago and have really liked it. I had used a FX Trackball for several years, so the speed is even more impressive. The only thing I don't like is having to waste batteries, but I am willing to do so for the ease of it...

Another fan for optical here!
In fact, I own three of them...a Logitech wireless optical, a Logitech "wired' and a M$ intellimouse "wired".
When I use an ol' rubber ball relic now, I feel like I'm in the stone age of computers.
However,...As much as I like my Logitech cordless, I think I prefer the corded opticals. The batteries seem to last just fine in the cordless, and it certainly comes in handy sometimes, but something about the weight of the mouse with batteries just doesn't feel as good to me.
The corded mice, having no batteries, just seem to be light as a feather and glide around so nicely.
Boy...How's that for lazy? Not wanting to drag around the weight of two AA batteries! :p :D

The thing I like, especially using the webwheel feature (on the logitech, probably on other makes as well), is the absence of wasted motion. I barely move my hand and yet I get around very quickly and accurately. It's just click, click, click.

It is kind of sad...Don't get me wrong, if I opt ti cal on my cordless, it never lets me down.
In fact, I've been using the one with the cord less all the time.
But you must admit, if I were ever to get mad and throw that thing at someone, the extra weight is likely to get me arrested for assault with battery.
Ok...The first part was sad. The second part? Just BAD. :p
(You guys are probably saying to yourselves.."This guy mouse be kidding").
I suppose I should take the pointer my wife gave me and stop this nonsense. :(
PS:2 late for that!

Mickey says, "Using just a keyboard is absolutely pointless!"
This mouse tale is true. Some syrup got on my mouse this morning, inadvertantly transferred from my morning pancakes, DOS was not a good thing to happen! Now, it's all GUI! :p
Actually, I cannot wait until we go to just voice recognition, I won't be feeling so mouse trapped. Hmmmm...reminds me of that bored game.
I once hit a mouse with my car which put a slight ding in my bumper. The insurance adjuster called it a road dent! Say, "Cheese!" :D

The battery thing for me is an ecological issue and if I become sufficiently concerned, I'll use rechargeables. I actually like the weight of the mouse with batteries in it. I gives it a substantial feel that I appreciate.
Sorry, got no puns today.....

I would definitely agree regarding the weight and substantial feel. Most of the mice up to this point have been light and airy...kind of like a mousse....Oh, that was really bad...even I'm groaning....:( :p

Well, I figured that I would try my problem here rather then starting a new thread since it has to do with optical mice. I have a MS Intellipoint I believe it is, I say believe because it's more like my fiances and I can't look at it right now, and anytime the computer is shut down, from the start menu, it will stay lit up. You have to switch the power switch in the back in order to turn off the mouse. Anyone know why? I had Win 98 and upgraded to XP and still have the same problem. Thanks.

I'd be curious to know why it stays lit also. I had the same thing going on with my Logitech optical and never could figure out whay it stayed lit. But when I upgraded to my current mb the light now goes out when the computer is shut down..... BTW it was an ECS K7VTA3 mb I think....
for overall practical use and for use with FPS's you can't beat the optical mice....

I have a Logitech Elite Duo wireless and it stays lit for a while after I stop using it, but I think it goes off after a while. It is a bit like the refrigerator though - if I pick it up to check, it is always on....:D

Yeah, I believe the board that is on that computer is an ECS also. I would have to double check that, since it's been a while since I've built it, but I'm willing to bet anything it is. Must be a problem, or an inconvenience, with these boards.
Mine does stay on for a little while to when I flip the switch in the back of the computer. Must just take a second to realize that it's not getting power. :)
