Changed a motherboard and memory but kept all exitsting hardware, started up and had all the usual 'device detected' stuff come up. clicked cancel on most just to see if stuff on hd was allright. ended up in safe mode having to delete duplicates of everything. eventually working again, however no cd rom shown on device manager. It will work on the boot screen. had a look at autoexec saw a REM edited but still not present. help.

Does the new MB need a "chipset driver"?
Unplug the CD and fix everythying, and then add in the CD to see what happens...

Did you reformat the hard drive and start fresh? When you change the motherboard without a clean start you may run into all sorts of conflicts since the drive is configured for the old board.

formatting hd was not an option as
machine used for business and no back ups had been made by
owner. however problem now solved, done by deleting just about everythig
in device manager and seeing what happened. luckily it worked.
