I have noticed for some time that the power light to my computer has been flickering and finally after awhile shuts off (the light not the computer). It seems to have no affect on the performance of my PC - it is more annoying than anything else. Lately, the power light does not come on at all. I've tried plugging and unplugging and turning the leads around where the cable connects to the motherboard. Any suggestions or comments?

Hello WhatAboutBob,
Welcome tohttp://www.pcguide.com/ubb/pcgubb.gif Forums!
It seems you're poking around in the right area looking for a connection problem with the case/MB connection.
What you might want to try, if the connector is identical for the HDD LED, is to pull the HDD LED lead and plug it into the Power LED spot and see if there is any difference.
LEDs have a life expectancy of approx. 100,000 hours which translates into approx. 12 years of continuous use...
That is not to say that the LED might not be skipping a few beats...
I'd see if the swapping routine can isolate the LED itself as a problem...
You also might want to consider d/ling MotherBoard Monitor 5. This would give you constant status reports regarding the Power Supply Rails by use of on screen tach gauges. It's a very handy utility and is FreeWare.

One other area where the connection problem can be is at the LED itself, where the wires are soldered to it. A bad solder joint can cause the exact symptoms you mentioned. The vibrations from the fans and drives will cause it to wiggle. It is probably much harder to get to that end of the LED to chek it out...
