HI everyone i am new to this forum need help from the expert like u guys!i recently DIY a new P4, my comp spec is listed below.

P4 2.4Ghz FSB533 (new)
MB ASUS P4s533-MX micro ATX (new)
Apace 2700 DDRAM 512MB (new)
(onboard video n sound n LAN)
Milky star Nividia Geforce2 MX 400 64MB SDRAM (old form old comp)
WESTERN DIGITAL 40G HDD (new)
SAMSUNG CDROM (new)
Floppy driver (new)
case with 4 fans good air flow (new)
Win XP pro SP1a

B4 i DIY the comp i discharge myself probably, seat all the card probably too, install everything and working fine as well, after i start playing the game ( C&C generals) it hung. Only when i play this game, average it hung once every 3 round of the game ( one round abt 1 n half hours) no overheat on CPU (38c when i play game) good airflow in the case, update the nvidia latest driver 43.45, once i get the hung screen color flashy cube and after reboot error msg shown in BIOS " During last boot up, you system hung for improper CPU speed setting, ur system is now working in safe mode, To optimize the system performance and reliability make sur ur cpu speed is comforms to the specifications of ur cpu" obviously i din overclock my cpu y do i get this massage and the flashy color cube thingy? the BIOS drop my CPU speed from 2400 to 1800Mhz strange huh?

so i try to reseat everything again, format n reinstall everything for N times, same problem occured,of coz i got all the driver latest update (except the game). i had been trying warcraft3 for whole night i seem to work fine and no hung for that......

My questions is,

1) could it be MB faulty? unstable causing the hang?
2) unstable of new PSU which i already change for 2 times?
3) DDRAM prob?
4) Old crappy Video card? fan is working fine....(is there a posibility overheat of the video card?? extra question)
5) New CPU faulty?

really blowing my head off.....spending 3 sleepless night to run stress test on my comp( actually is on me) by onli plasying that game sighhhhh and it hung finally.....

anyone or someone pls help me? i really wanna get this thing done....

pls any comment are welcom and greatly appreciated!!

thanks u very much

Hello allanbonny,

Welcome tohttp://www.pcguide.com/ubb/pcgubb.gif Forums!

My first suggestion would be to download one of the free RAM testers and let it do its thing. ASUS MBs are notoriously finicky about what type of RAM you feed them! :(

http://www.overclockers.com/tips79/

Just as a matter of course I would also run the WD diagnostics. These can be d/led from their web site.

Did you enter the BIOS and disable the OnBoard Video?

What size power supply are you using in your new build?

I would also check for the latest update to the game you're playing.

Would you post back the RAM test results? ;)

I would also try running with the cover off and a small fan blowing into the system to see if heat is a factor. An overheating video card is definitely a possibility and the CPU may be hotter than you think if your are using monitoring software to check it.

Also, plz uz full wrds to rply, it may take less time to type in shorthand, but it takes twice as long to read.

Thanks for quick reply frm both of u!! :D ok i run memory test (APACER PC2700 512MB) as u guys say n it pass every test, i am using "DocMemory" to run the test, "quick test" is a pass, "burn in test " not much diff from "quick test" (i pause when it finished 1st loop hehehe ) regarding to the open case and small fan blowing i did as well coz i am in air cond room so heat shouldn't be a big issue to me(but will keep monitor).... frm wat i check frm other forum "color cube flashy event when hung" somehow related to video card any comment?? and one another stupid Question, i din lock the AGP retention clip (small white click at the end of the AGP slot) does it effect anything? issit a "must" to lock the AGP card with that clip? any comment? any other suggestion?

1) i didn't disable the onboard video, can i disable it in windows? but i cant see it in my "hardware device" it just show my recent AGP card, does it causin conflict?think will try now! will post after test!

2) PSU : 400Watt

ok guys new error occurred!! now just after i reply the last msg, i try to restart my comp, the annoying beeping sound coming out and my comp cant boot..... (BIOS is AwardBIOS) endless loop of longggg beeping (one long beep is abt 2 to 3 sec).... my mon show nothing(dark blank screen) checked AwardBios website error decode: memory error... (pls do rply this-->) could it be video card's ram error causing the same beeping? i did reseat the ram, and my comp go back on... but wat abt b4?? i had on my comp few times a day if i din reseat the Ram probaably should beep earlier...hmmm strange.....?? maybe bad DDRam? (but y i still can using it now?).......
any coomment? or there is another meaning for tht beeping pattern...

note: the hung and beeping happen few times
1) 6 to 7times hung when playing graphic intense game( C&C
generals)
2) endless loop of longgg beep happen( 2 times in total) when
restart
