Hope someone out there can help me out.

I have a Seagate 8GB HD model ST38410A. Recently while defragmenting it the system hung. After rebooting the PC, it wouldn’t recognize the HD anymore (Autodetect failed to recognize it). I’d noticed that as soon as I switch on the power, the HD’s LED is lit all the time, even before the BIOS kicks in. The HD never spins at all (no spinning/clicking sound coming from it like it used to) after that. I’d even tried to manually enter the BIOS data but to no avail. I’d tried it on another PC and different setting and IDE cable but still the same.

FYI, PC spec is Fujitsu Deskpower2000 - P3 with 128 MB RAM, HD on IDE 0 master, CDROM on IDE 1 master, Win98SE

Any idea what's going on?

I would suggest getting the SeaTools diagnostics from the Seagate site, but it doesn't sound too good. Usually when no spinning is heard it means the drive has spun its last...
