OS: Win XP

I got a new machine at work which runs fine except that my printer doesn't work with it, even from a DOS prompt. I ran the troubleshooter to no avail and looked for all the ususal suspects. I wonder if it's because there is no lpt port in the Device Manager. I installed the printer OK and set it to lpt1, but lpt1 doesn't appear under Ports (COM & LPT). There used to be a lpt3 but it had an exclamation point next to it so I uninstalled it and was hoping to creat a lpt1. Any suggestions?

Start with the Basics.
Boot the system and enter the Bios setup.
Check the area in bios that is normally listed as Integrated Peripherals
Look for the LPT 1 listing and how it is set.
Enabled / disabled
Normal/epp/spp

Should be set to enabled. ( will/should also list the address used)
Check the printer requirements for the port settings

After it is enabled exit bios and save settings reboot.
Windows should find and install the needed drivers..

If windows doesn’t find the port on reboot.
Run the Find new hardware from control panel and let it find the port..

LP3 sounds like an add in card
if it has one you may need to find the manufacturers website and download the required drivers
