I was doing a BIOS flash on my old puter and it was going well untill it reboot and got the following,
Beep, Beep, Beep continuous and a message saying "CPU fan is not working turn off NOW".
I tried to recover it using the made floppy but the puter doesnt POST, it only powers up then you get the above, so how do i get past this???
I dont wont to end her life if she can be saved :( .
Did you clear the CMOS after the flash?
Does the CPU fan have a tachometer output? I saw this on BadFlash:
"3. Many Upgrades will require the use of a "smart fan" plugged into the right header on the motherboard. Modern CPU's can overheat and burn out in under 5 seconds. To protect them they put protection into the bios requiring you to have the fan spinning at 2000RPM in under 5 seconds or the board will power down. If you power up the board and it turns back off after about 5 seconds, suspect this problem."

1. Yes.
2. Unsure.
No the cpu fan is work ok when the mobo is powerd up.
A tachometer fan will have a three conductor cable and plug that attaches to the CPU fan pins on the motherboard. If it has a two conductor cable or is connected to a power splitter, then it has no tachometer output to be detected by the BIOS.

The cpu fan has three wires/pins connected to the mobo but only one of the two fan headers work (killed the other trying a 12V fan...LOL).
The fan headers are often labled CPU and SYSTEM. If the CPU fan header is dead, then the BIOS is not going to detect the CPU fan operation. If your BIOS flash programmed the system to protect the CPU, I do not have any idea of a easy remedy.

If the CPU fan connector is dead, the mobo may be a lost cause; most boards these days won't boot if they don't get positive feedback from the mobo that the fans are working. This is to keep your CPU from burning up.
If only the BIOS flash is bad, you can use the badflash link in an earlier post to get a new BIOS....
Was the system run able before the bios flash ?
If yes.
Did you back up the old bios ?
If Yes again..
Then just restore the old bios using flash
Another thing that may help is a power tach extension cord like this one.
http://www.kdcomputers.com/eui/prime/profile/806/66/component.htm
It allows you to power the fan from the power supply and still have the tach hooked to the M/B
Unless the tach terminal on the M/B cpu fan connector is also DOA

Sorry, probably ain't no "almost" about it...
Was there life insurance? Have you notified the next of kin? :(
Some mobo sites have the original BIOS'es available for fallbacks but if you can't even get a floppy to work I'm afraid you're beating a dead horse (http://www.pcguide.com/vb/attachment.php?s=&postid=84759)

Jiggy, does the system give you an option to enter Setup? If it does, go into setup and disable the line item labeled something like, "CPU Fan Auto Detection" or similar. It should then boot OK.
