Yeah my cpu is overheating. It gets around 140 degrees Farenheit.I put a bigger fan on it and its still overheating.Think its a defective processer or motherboard? Its a 1.4 gig Athlon. Is this normal? My system monitor(monitors the temperature) doesnt seem to think so.

Hi Diurnal. There are acouple of things that could be going on that could cause this. If you have poor case ventulation or if your fan is sucking air through the heatsink and not blowing air on it. the heatsink may not be seated well (too much thurmal goop) or its just a crap hs. You could open the case and see if the temps drop. That will tell you if its bad ventulation. Check the fan to make sure its blowing down. Oh yea check the temp in the bios to make sure that your system monitor is correct.

deffinatly need more sys. info. but try this CAREFULLY touch the sys.processor or the heat sink near where it attatches to the processor if you have to with draw your finger imediatly then it is a processor prob. Are you getting any error mess. with this what is the air flow output of the fan? need more info. imput http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/eek.gif

There is an Award BIOS issue causing the 1.4's to really run hot. But you haven't stated which Mboard this CPU sits on or which version of BIOS you are using. Have you flashed the bios to a later version than which came on the Mboard? Dual fan HS? For an Athlon? If they are sitting on top of each other it's not doing anything but creating turbulence. Luck.
