My first attempt at flashing Bios has hit a snag. Everything seems to be loaded correctly except I get an I/O conflict 03F8 right after memory test then I have a choice to hit F1 to continue which boots into safe mode. I also get one beep which I believe is a good thing, right? I checked the coms in system decices and cannot find a conflict. In system information under system tools it shows a forced Com 4. Haven't configured a com4 manually, although the reboot after flashing installed a COM port. Also, mouse was not listed didn't work and then it did. Later it loaded the mouse drivers and mouse showed up in device manager. Mobo mfg recovery instructions state that I need to create a bootable floppy... dosen't say DOS or Windows. I know how to make a Windows boot disk but not a DOS boot disk. Instructions then says to create an AUTOEXEC.BAT on the floppy with a line: AWDFLASH P5mvp.bin (the BIOS file).... How do I do that??

HHEELLPPP!! please

Check your BIOS settings. Sounds like COM 1 was disabled before and got enabled after the flash. Should be an option in the BIOS to disable the COM port under Peripherals. It's creating a conflict because your modem is probably setup on COM 1. You could leave it enable, disable COM 2 in the BIOS and setup the modem onto COM 2, or just disable COM 1 altogether. Hope this helps.

I think the instructions you are talking about refers to "how to update the BIOS". You need to create a bootable disk (they are all DOS disk) and then copy the BIOS upgrade files into it. I usually use the right click on the a: drive in the explorer and format the disk with "copy system files" checked. All you need to do is boot from the floppy and run the flash program. Remmember to save the old copy of BIOS to a floppy in case.

If you had already done the Flashing BIOS then go into CMOS and see if everything is OK.

At a:\ prompt just type AWDFLASH P5mvp.bin instead of creating an autoexec.bat file. However be sure you have all the files on the floppy(awdflash.exe and p5mvp.bin).

So the recovery operation is the same as the original Flash operation??

I am not sure about it. Once you start to flash the BIOS, you have to finish it all the way to the end. If for some reason it is incomplete(aborted, unplugged, black out, etc), the whole BIOS is useless and BIOS/motherboard need to be changed.
