If this is a newer larger harddrive on an older machine, you may be able to get the bIOS to see the drive a number of ways.
Or is it an old HDD that is no longer seen?
Please give us some details so we'll know what you mean. System specs.

well.. its one of those recalled fujitsu harddrives.. I have tried it to access it many ways.. dos.. slave on a 98 machine master and slave on a 2000 machine .. but basically dos doesent see it.. it will see 2 other identical drives... im pretty sure something is electronically wrong with the drive .. I was just wondering if there is some kind of software which will attempt to talk to it and maybe give me a report of what it sees..
Thanks
Wes

Sounds like a dead horse.
Is there any sound at all in power up coming from the drive? Like the heads releasing from their anchor point and the motor spinning up?
Can you refund it?

I agree with the dead horse.. but I want to be able to tell my boss that I tried everything ..short of spending $1500 and sending it to drive savers
yea.. it spins up and does a reptative clicking.

You can try the manufacturers diagnostics. They download to a floppy. If the diagnostics can't see the drive, it's probably dead.
