Hi - Just added a second module of 256 samsung 256 2700 ddr to my Soltek DRV5 mobo. Before doing so, I had my memory set at "fastest" (normal, fast, faster, fastest), cas 2.5, command rate of 1. Since adding the new module, cas still at 2.5, I can set command rate at 1, but I can only set the memory speed to "normal". If I even try to bump it to "fast", neither XP nor win98 will boot (dual-boot system), yet I can post into the bios without any problems. Is this unusual, i.e., should I let this puppy just sit and "cook" for a few days and then bump it up, or is this just a crummy mediocre piece of memory? I've heard people debate the relative merits of different variations of this same Samsung chip, i.e., DTL, CTL, etc. I cannot tell from the markings if this is a "CTL" or "DTL" or whatever. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks.

Interesting turn of events. I purchased this memory from memorysuppliers, advertised on google. Well, this is not Samsung memory. It is Wintec memory. They either use samsung components, or resell samsung memory, I don't know, but I reinstalled it tonight and ran it through Sandra (now I'm going to buy Sandra) and it was identified as Wintec. I looked them up on google and sure enough they sell a wide variety of components. I will RMA this puppy back to memorysuppliers. They promise full money back guarantee in 30 days. Let's see if they hold to it.
Should have known something was fishy when newegg and nutrend did not have this in stock for quite a while but this outfit did. I got sucked in by their advertisement on google. Live and learn.

One of the problems that can occur with this sort of thing is memory access times.
If a DIMM has an access time of 60nS and you put another in with 70nS, then they sysem will default to the slowest time. If the system tries to boot to the fastest time (if the fastest DIMM is in slot 1) then the sysem may hang, as the second DIMM can't handle things, and promptly falls on it's backside.

Deddard, I think both were rated at 60, but your point is well taken in that the Wintec may not be as up to spec as the genuine Samsung. The bottom line here is that I am not keeping a memory module sold under false pretenses. If you type samsung ddr 333 into google, you will get an advertisement off to the right side from memorysuppliers re. "samsung pc2700 ddr sale". Click on it and up comes a list of several Samsung memory products. That's what I ordered, and it's a rip. I'm real anxious to see how quickly this outfit refunds my money, if I have to hassle with them at all.
