It seems that my screen is unusually dark, especially when I play video games. I have pushed my brightness of my monitor to 100% but it still does not help. Is there something else that I could do? Thanks.
This could be a good sign that it's time to go shopping for a new monitor
If the unit is old you could also try checking the ventilation .
Make sure the vent holes are clear and air is allowed to move freely through the case
If it is a newer monitor .
I Hope it is still under warranty

Is this a CRT or TFT/LCD monitor?
If it is a CRT there's a possibility that there are factory pre-sets that can be adjusted. Your local Computer/TV repair center may be able to advise you if this is so. This is not an area for the inexperienced to be poking around in...high voltage "curly perm" stuff!
The major rub now-a-days is that monitors are relatively inexpensive and many repair shops charge diagnostic fees to cover their labor costs and overhead, repairs being additional.
The last time I took my 27" Sony TV set in for repairs I was charged a flat $145.00 fee...The tech report said there was a loose wire that was resoldered!
So, what I'm saying is that my service fee could have gone a long way toward purchasing new...Even though I received a 90 day warranty on the repairs, all the remaining components were still 5 years "used!" :(

When you play video games, you often have to adjust the gamma settings - this will brighten things up.
You can use the advanced options on the display settings to increase brightness/gamma settings as well.

Someone else mentioned this gamma thing and told me to right click on my desktop and then hit properties and then display. I have not been able to find anything to do with gamma/brightness. The only way I have been able to change my brightness is through the monitor buttons.

Go here (http://www.entechtaiwan.com/ps.htm) an download PowerStrip. With this great little program you can adjust color, brightness, contrast and gamma as well as many other video properties.
All adjustments are independent of drivers.
