Some where in this forum I mentioned that I had problems with my two year old PB Club `78 Monitor. Recently I have replaced it with an RELISYS 17". After completeing the sale I asked the sales person if my old monitor could be repaired, the reply after relating the problems where, "Mabe, but the labour charges would amount to more than a new Monitor.
The problem was. The picture kept fadeing and makeing crackling noises, at no time could I smell burning! It eventually would not light up. The sales person stated that it could be a dry joint? :) Any comments and would it be safe to work on it?

Hmmmmmmmmmmm............... The diagnosis of a dry joint could be correct, but I wouldn't work on a monitor with no circuit diagram/manual, and access to spares. I have enough experience to know my limitations.
Besides, the internal capacitors can hold a charge for several days. 20 - 30 THOUSAND volts does not take prisoners! DON'T DO IT!!

A faulty monitor should only be dealt with by a SKILLED tech, who knows exactly what he is doing, or you bite the bullet and use it as a doorstop!

I repeat, for your own safety, DO NOT OPEN A MONITOR CASE!

You know one of the reasons why TV/monitor labor charges are so high?

The higher health insurance premiums.
