I have got a problem with my computer which is making me unable to use it.
The problem is, (1) when I burn cd’s my computer either locks up,or re-boots itself.
(2) When I go onto the internet after approx half an hour,my computer will re-boot itself.
I can mess about in windows playing music,or watching movies buts that’s about it.
A few of my friends have made suggestions as to what it could be,but they where no help!
So I have decided to ask the expert,so I hope you can help me because this has been going on now for just over a week.
I have formatted my hard drive and re-installed windows, 3 times but to no effect.
It is now beginning to really get to me,because I can’t use my computer.
The specs of my machine are as follows:
1st mainboard FIC AZ11EA-Motherboard.
1.3GHZ AMD ATHLON Processor.
GE-FORCE 2 MX Graphics Card (With heat sink & fan, Bought Optional).
Macron power Model MPT-301 – 300 WATT Power supply.
512 mb Of 133mhz RAM.
SEAGATE BARRACUDA 20 Gb 7,200rpm hard drive.
Sound Blaster Live! 1024 Sound Card.
Cambridge Soundworks 4 Point Surround FPS 1500 Speakers.
Mirai 16x-10x-40x Burn Proof CD Writer.
52 Speed CD Rom.
As far I am aware, all my drivers are up to date.
Please help I’m getting desperate.

Hi Shauny,
There have been a bunch of posts centered around this problem you are experiencing. If you're like me you want an answer now. So, if so, go to the top of this screen and do a search with the words rebooting or shuts down and you'll find that this is a "common" but certainly significant problem.

In General, these are the typical, diagnostics to follow.
1st, cheapest least invasive operation, ....take your case cover off and put a small desk fan (blowing on/through the case). Then run for a while and see if it works. If it does work and you can run your CD burner and watch movies and use IE, blah blah blah, you have discovered that you have a heat problem. See?
2nd, if 1st doesn't change the scenario, then typically most would try a new power supply. Those things aren't invincible. Even new ones go bad. Your system is a power beast. As it heats up over time the power supply could be giving up. You let it sit off for an hour or two and then you can get it to work for a half hour, right?
3rd, RAM is always a suspect in the game of "Clue" here on the PC Forum. If you can get some other RAM sticks try them. Sometimes RAM fails after it gets hot.
The fact that your system runs for a while before getting weird would point to hardware rather than software, at least, in first diagnosis.
4th, Video card issues.
Anyway, I'd at least try number one and then post back,
peace,
