I posted in another section, trying to avoid reformatting my c drive but found things getting so bad I did just that yesterday. I had found a program in windows/temp directory called killwind...I checked the properties/version information and it is described as a vicious killer of windows). I dragged the file to a floppy, deleted it from temp and then totally wiped the hard drive clean. Today I have been trying to get things back the way they were. I found while trying to install winzip(within the last 2 hours) killwind is back. I went to the Symantec Security Check site and ran a scan...it showed I have no viruses and am not at risk...I am running zone alarm and McAffee. What in the world is killwind and if not a virus, why the "vicious killer of windows" stuff?
Any information will be greatly appreciated...

Is your computer an HP by any chance? The only reference I could find for Killwind describes it as an HP utility that kills unnecessary windows applications. Sounds like another utility I use called end it all. Check this link (http://www.geek.com/discus/messages/321/3214.html) look for the post near the bottom of the page by Amy L Geek.

This probably runs during the install process too, which is why its in your temp directory. I could be wrong, but it's all I could find.
Good Luck PC D

I have not lost my mind - it's backed up on disk somewhere.
