I recently aquired a used computer with a password in the bios. How can I possibly get around this?
Thanks.

Hello Rhyzuki and welcome,
You can clear the password by removeing the CMOS battery, should be a small round thing that looks like a shiny quarter on the motherboard. Replace it after a couple of minutes and you should be on your way.;-)
Do you have any more info on this machine?

Bassman is correct, the only way to do this is to remove the CMOS battery.
Before you do that, find out what kind of hard drive you have and get the drive settings from the manufacturer. Some 486 computers require you to enter the number of heads, cylinders and sectors per track.
Good Luck

If it's an older board, then the battery may be soldered in place. There's a jumper that is used to reset CMOS settings. If you can't remove the battery, find this jumper and reset it(having the manual would be brilliant). Power up the system and when you know the password has been cleared, power down, and reset the jumper. I've had to do this on 2 old boards and finding the jumpers was relatively easy because they were marked. Hope this is the case with you. Try the battery first.
