How can I tell how much fans can I have in my case? The comp I have rite now is a compcrap that I bought so I don't really know this. Also how can you tell how much fans a case can support just by looking at it?
Thanx for answering;) BTW I just up my fsb and increase my proc speed to 1.1ghz from 1.0ghz... and I'm scare that it will overheat so thats why Im asking about fan. Oh and right now I have my case side panel off to cool my system better.:D

Deagle,

First a question: if you are that worried about burning up your CPU to get a boost in speed that is basically imperceptible, why are you overclocking in the first place. My rule of thumb is that if you can't afford to burn it up, don't overclock it...

That said, you can put as many fans in as you want if you are willing to mod your case. If you have a Compaq, it probably has as many fans as it will take without a mod. You can look and see if there are any fan openings in the case to see if any more will fit. You can try adding a slot fan or a drive bay fan, but they usually don't add much more to cooling. You also need to look at the airflow through the case to make sure you don't worsen things by messing around with fans.

I think that you're making heavy work out of a minor issue here. Most
computer cases are about as streamlined as a wedding cake and most users
don't even think about air flow without suffering dire consequences. If you take a peek on either the Intel or AMD thermal spec recommendations you'll find that they both basically recommend a suck blow arrangement, i.e., the front case fan sucking in and the power or added case fan blowing out of the back.In that little case you have this is all you will ever need..

"You can look and see if there are any fan openings in the case" But I don't know how to look for fan opening?:( I don't think I have a front intake fan, only the one in the back.:( It's not like I overdoing it or anything...;) I just want to see what it's like and stuff... Cause everybody is DOING it:D
Thanx for ur help, oh I try raising the fsb up higher and my comp just freeze...:p

You can tell if there are fan openings by seeing whether there are any areas with little holes in them and no fan in that spot. They should be about 80mm across, but sometimes they are a bit smaller or larger. It is unlikely that you have any since proprietary computers usually don't have much room to expand anything...

I don't have a ruler in my house so.... But this is what I see when I open up the comp. These are small holes in the back of the case. I will try to create them here so please bear with me.:D

Your link leads to a message about editing the page, so I am not sure what the picture was, but the other attempt you made to make a picture sounds like you may have a spot for a fan after all if the holes go all the way through. If you want to put one in, measure the distance between the corner holes so that you know what size to look for. Keep in mind that they are usually measured in millimeters (mm).

Here's a link (http://www.newegg.com/app/Showimage.asp?style=album) to what look almost like my fan slot. What do u mean measure the distance between corner holes? Please ignore the line. :D

Looks like a spot for a fan to me. Most likely it's an 80mm fan space. 80mm fans typically measure around 3" to 3 1/2". If I were you, I would cut out the holes to allow for better airflow. Be careful to leave the four holes in the corners to allow for attaching the fan.

Also, set that fan to exhaust hot air from the case. On the edge of the fan housing, there will be arrows showing both the direction of the blades and the direction of the airflow.

The corner holes are the ones in the corners where you would screw in the fan screws.

BB66 you're corrected, I do have a fan slot. I went and measured it and it came out to be a lil more than 80mm and a lil more than 3". I also went look for the pins connecter for the fan and I saw the 3-pins. There were 2 and 1 is already use by the HSF so I guess I can have 1 other 80mm fan.
How exactly do I cut out the holes to make better airflow... and what cut steel? So if I were to cut it I would leave the 4 corner holes like this? Or the 2nd one?

I was thinking of getting the Vantec tornado fan... but I heard that it's too loud so is the Antec smartfan good or should I get the tornado? Thanx for all the helps peeps :D I'll try look for the smartfanII also:cool:

You would want the second pattern, but you don't necessarily have to cut it. You only cut it out to allow a little more airflow. Unless you are pretty comfortable with modding your case, it may not be worth the trouble and risk.

Either of those fans would probably be okay. If you want the quietest around, I believe that is Stealth. Keep in mind that cutting out the grill will probably increase the noise level a bit.

How do I mod my case? I heard about the stealth fan that its quiet but pushes very little air like 20cfm or something... The tornado I heard can go up to 65cfm so that's a lot of air but it's noisy. I want a fan that can adjust itself to the case temp and slow down or speed up according to temp.
Oh and why does BB66 want to me to put it as an exhaust fan? Could u explain why?
Thanx:D

Cutting out the fan grill is modding the case. Anything you do to change the case is modding, like putting in a window.

BB was recommending to put the fan in the back because generally you want air flow from the front to the back and a fan in the back pulls out the warm air so it doesn't accumulate in the case. Some people advocate more air in front and some more air in back, but the pattern of front to back is very consistent. If you put it blowing in you will create turbulence that may even hold heat in....

Ok I decided to get the antec smartfan 80mm.;) I see engrave on the fan is these 2 arrows like this:
So do I position the fan arrow to face the inside or the out side of the case? Thanx :D

The arrow indicates the direction of the airflow, so pointing out of the case....

While it's true that you don't really have to cut out those little holes, it's generally a very good idea. Some of those stamped grills restrict as much as 70 or even 80% of airflow.

Do you have any tools, Deagle? Like a Dremel or jigsaw or nibbler? Since you have components in the case, it would be best to either use a Dremel or a nibbler. Whatever you use, be careful of flying debri and metal shavings. You don't want them to lodge themselves in the components. It's really best to cut out those stamped fan grills before you even install anything in the case. Keep that in mind for the future.

You don't need a Tornado fan as a case fan. Those fans are most often used as heatsink fans.

Cutting out the holes may increase the noise level a wee bit, but so does back pressure from not cutting out the holes. If you're really concerned about the noise level, get yourself a fan controller. I highly recommend the Vantec Nexus 201. It has handled anything I have thrown at it, including 120mm fans drawing over 7 watts. Everybody raves about the Sunbeam fan controller. That controller did not handle those 120mm fans, wouldn't even start them up. POS, I tell you what.

I don't have any tools except my trusty screwdriver and anti-static wristrap:D I guess Im not gonna mess around with cutting metals if there's sensitive components inside already.:p Actually the smartfan is quite good, it detects the heat inside my case and speed up or slow down accordingly.
Hey thanx for all the input guys:D
