I'm looking for a good deal on a graphics card for a PC I'm building. I'm still getting all the pieces ordered and everything, so any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

How much can you spend?

Are you going to play newer bigger games (Doom111, Half life2)? if you into games.

Are you wanting to take advantage of 8X AGP?

Or spend bit more on mobo and get onboard graphics.

Well, I probably can't go over $100.00, and I shouldn't be spending that, but exceptions can be made. I'm definately interested in the newer, bigger games. (my PC wont support them now) The motherboard I have picked out has an 8X AGP slot, but can I get a motherboard with that kind of graphics already on it? If so, that would probably be easier for me. And if I'm building it, I'll want it to do everything, or what's the point, you know?

And I should also mention that I'm looking for a sound and network card, if I need them (?) (?).

Ive got 4X/8X AGP mobo thats using a GeForce2 ultra for now, then when Doom111 or Half Life2 comes out im going on a spending spree, wich i shouldnt do.
Also the newer bigger games like memory, WinXP uses 121MB-ish just at desk top and then your game on top.

Buy your self a wrist strap to earth you when building.

You won't need a sound card or ethernet card if you go with the board you indicated in the other thread... for that matter, most motherboards these days come with decent sound and ethernet. The only way you would need a sound card is if you want to upgrade to major multichannel sound and then you are looking at really good speakers too.

Wow. I was not aware of that. Thanks. I would definately have bought something I didn't need.:) So, all I need to do now is decide on a video card...Finally.

Onboard graphics will strain under the latest games. The simple fact is that onboard graphics wasn't made for gaming. If you like to play anything like Medal of Honor or UT2003, you will be crying on the floor within minutes! :p

For a decent and cheap performer, either get a GeForceFX 5200 (non-Ultra & non-"Lite version") or a Radeon 9200. The FX 5200 is fully DX9 compatible for upcoming games like DoomIII, Half-Life2, and Everquest2 (but don't expect super-great performance). The Radeon 9200 can't boast that, but is still a good performer. Both are designed for passive cooling (no fan needed on the card itself) so they're quiet and cheap. About $80 for the 128MB versions.
