View Full Version : ASPI Manager error
Hi,
I had installed a HP 9150i CD rewriter drive on my computer and it had worked OK - haven't used it for a long time and now it comes up with the message that it cannot locate the ASPI manager and even though there is an e: in explorer, it doesn't recognise it as a HP drive.
Any ideas what is wrong and how i can fix it?
Thanks in advance

Even though your CD-RW is IDE, you still need an ASPI layer. I don't know what went wrong, but here is a page (http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/support/supporteditorial.html?prodkey=ASPI_Layer_Upkeep) at Adaptec.
ASPI: Advanced SCSI Programmer's Interface. A layer of code which manages communication between software and SCSI cards.
Thanks Kenja,
I've d/l the aspichk and the aspi32.exe and updated to latest version and still get the same error. It says I've updated the driver but there are no host adapters..
In the Device Manager there is no mention of CDROMs, yet if I boot up in safe mode the CDROM is listed.
Totally stuck...

Interesting...the only other suggestion I have is to look at the drive configurations in BIOS ("Auto" is usually the best choice, but I've got a Phoenix BIOS with "CD-ROM" as an option.)
I was wondering if the HP is listed with your other drive(s) in the text that is displayed during initial boot-up. I'm guessing it is, since it shows up in Safe mode.
Mine is also a Phoenix Bios and it is set up as auto. It also shows the drive name when booting up.
Something else has happened in that my cdrom.sys has been wiped after i tried installing another driver.
