Hi all,

While listening to songs, all of sudden pc has crashed. When it is rebooted, after doing some BIOS initialisation, saying "veryfying DMI pool data.." and it is not able to proceed from there,it got struck at that stage only. Tried with Boot disk's they are able to initialise the floppy, when it's turn coming to Hard disk it is hanging there only.

What went wrong with hard disk,is there any solution for it?
can any one help me please?

thanks,
Anil kumar.

Hi anil,

What operating system are you using?

Are you trying to boot with a win98 bootdisk? If you are, are you getting to an A:\> prompt? If you are, type in fdisk /mbr and hit enter. This should return you to the prompt. Once at the prompt remove the boot disk and reboot the computer. This will reset your master boot record. Problems with the mbr is one of the causes of that problem.

If you can't get to the A:\> prompt or you go through the above with no success, download the diagnostic program from the HDD manufacturers website and test your drive. It could be that the drive has failed.

Has your drive been making any strange noises or acting erratically in any way? Have you made any recent changes in hardware and/or software? What are the specs on your computer?

It certainly sounds like your hard drive may have failed, but other options need to be explored to establish that...

Your boot disk sector may have failed. If that is the case just buy a new HD, load an OS and set up the old HD as a slave, then copy your files off it.
