for ignoring me
I volunteer my time here and I answer questions when I get around to them, I'm sure that you have just made a whole bunch of "friends" here...two hours or so is not an unreasonable amount of time to wait for an answer! If you want instant answers try the tech support line for the manufacturer of your system.

mjc: The funniest part is that she never did what you suggested about the memory (going down to 512mb) that might solve the whole thing...

I don't appreciate this at all. One hour, ten minutes...
These are some of the best people on the Internet, they're VERY good at what they do, but they don't sit here waiting for you to post a question. They come here and volunteer their valuable time, knowledge and expertise because they WANT to, not because you expect them to come running when you have a problem.
If you want to complain about tech support people taking too long to fix your computer call Compaq or HP and you can complain all you want to, you're PAYING for the privelege. These people are not paid for this, they aren't sitting here 24/7 waiting on you and usually that's an understood part of an Internet based tech support forum of this type. You get an answer whenever they get off work, have dinner, spend time with the wife/husband and kids, THEN get online and come here at their convenience, not yours.
I'm sorry if I seem a bit harsh, but this rubs me the wrong way. We have some fabulous people here, they get results and have a good time doing it, and some of us spend a LOT of time trying to figure out compter problems for no other compensation than the satisfaction of doing it and doing it well. Somepeople have waited several days and not gotten answers, some wait till the next weekend when they can get online, and rarely do they complain. I know of at least 4 right now that were posted 2 or 3 days ago with no replies at all so far. That's usually because nobody knows an answer.
You've gotten answers, or suggestions, and from what we can see so far, haven't followed those suggestions, or some of them. Stop complaining and start cooperating.

I saw the replies to this post and was taken back a bit. So I searched back and read all of the posts related to Debra's original problem. I empathize with her because PC's are fickle beasts that sometimes seem to have minds of their own. However, it is always important to remember that patience is a virtue and where computers are concerned, it is a necessity!
The good people of the PC Guide are a wonderful lot. They have helped many, especially this poor excuse for a geek. And they do it for the "love of the game" so to speak. Sorry you did not find satisfaction here.
