View Full Version : Is my CPU toast?

I just got a new system in the mail. When I booted it up it worked for about 20-30 seconds (I went into BIOS on bootup) and then it shut down. I opened the system and found that the CPU heatsink & fan had come off of the CPU. I put the heatsink/fan back on the CPU, but now I don't get anything at all on startup. Are there any temperature management features on an Athlon chip that may have saved it, or is my CPU fried?
Thanks to all
I'd say the chances of toast are extremely high, and AMD chip without cooling can fry in 10 seconds or so... http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/frown.gif

Hey,
Yep, she's toast alright. Hope you can send it back for a replacment. The heatsink/fan coming off the CPU means nothing but shoddy workmanship. Hope you didn't buy it off ebay. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/eek.gif
Good luck.
