View Full Version : e drive not accessible,device not ready

i am getting the above error message when i click on my e drive(cd rom) and d drive (cd writer).
so i cannot use either .
i have checked device manager which informs me both are working perfectly
also both drives are recognised on the "black screen" prior to the windows logo screen
i have inserted a cd into the drive,the cd spins and the lights flicker as before but the nothing happens apart from the above message
replies in plain ,jagon free terms,we were all beginers once
please help

Seeing as the PC acknowledges the existence of the drives, my first question would be how many different CDs you've tried. If just one - try more!
And don't worry - the fact that you can use Device Manager puts you way ahead of most of the beginners I deal with! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif

i have tried different media
find below full details of the problem
i have checked device manager i am informed that both devices are working,the "black start up screen"informs me both are recognised
when i insert a cd the light flashes and it makes its usual whirring sound
i can eject the cd from the options when i highlight the drive in my computer
i have even disconnected it started up,shut down etc as if i was installing a new device but no luck
i have used a cd lens cleaner but nothing works help

OK. How new is the system? Have the drives ever worked? Is there any way you could try them in a different PC?
