I have a MB ASUSp3v133 with P3 666MHZ via chipset + 640MB sdram.
I bought a sony monitor with DVI connector .
I decided to swap my video card Matrox ( NO dvi). To have the pleasure with numeric display.

Up to here no prob.

I bought first a Hercules 3D prophet 9000pro 128MB DDR no display, no boot.. Ati radeon chipset. no display, no boot..

then I bought a WinFast A340 chipset FX5200 Nvidia 128MB DDR again no display, no boot..

Solution applied:
I try multiple screen vga and dvi no go.
I test the original card... no prob on both vga connectors ( Dual head matrox) ; Update bios. no go
I thought ddr memory not compatible with my MB's memory... nope mentionned on both card compatible P2 and p3..
Any idea??THX to all of you...

Welcome to http://www.pcguide.com/ubb/pcgubb.gif

I am not sure I understand the situation, but I thought I would give you a simple thing to try. I am guessing these are AGP cards you are trying to install and they can be difficult to seat properly. If you seat them properly, they will typically make a clicking sound twice in the process. Make sure they are seated well and if you have a back clip on the motherboard, make sure that is locked down and then try the card.

I'm not sure in this response but you can also clarify if I'm wrong Budfred, but the new cards that you buy need an 8x AGP? if you have a MotherBoard that only support a maximum of 4x AGP could be a problem? As I said I'm not sure what type of AGP your MoBo support or if the video cards that you get are 8x, and if I'm wrong can you please clarify this to me budfred, I'm going to buy a new video card and don't want to make a mistake of buying something that my MoBo is not going to support.

JGO,

As I understand it, most 8X AGP cards are downward compatible, so they should work on a 4X board. However, I believe there are some exceptions to that rule, so it would be a good idea to check the required specs carefully before buying. There are others around here that know a lot more about video than I do, so hopefully some of them will address this for you.

How did you remove your old video card? If you left the drivers installed this may be part of your problem. Also if your old card was PCI, and your new ones are AGP, you may have to go into the BIOS to select the proper setting before you remove the Matrox card (Some BIOS have an AGP/PCI setting).
