View Full Version : Cannot place HDD into boot order

OK, this is really bugging me, and I'm too lazy to search the forums :p

I was trying to fix my friend's home-built comp. He said the problem was caused when he was fiddling with his PCI Ethernet card. Naturally, it was the first thing I removed when I tried to fix the computer.

Here's the deal:

He's running an A7V333 and an Athlon 1800+. I'm not really good with BIOS settings (my Dell at home has pretty much none), but they did look kind of messed up to me. But the real kicker is that even though the BIOS can autodetect his HDD and during booting it can detect his HDD, the BIOS refuses to let me put the HDD into the booting order. It instead gives me options for 5 removable drives (?) and I can only boot from a floppy. It won't let me boot from CD drives or HDD drives. The options I can put on the booting order are weird things like ATAPI MO and other stuff I can't remember.

Does anybody have any experience with the A7V333 and can get the boot order up?

Under the BOOT menu in the BIOS there should be listings numbered 1, 2, 3, 4.

You are speaking only of number 1. You can select disabled here if you like or just set it to floppy.

Number 2 you can set to IDE Hard Drive.

There is no selection for Hard Drive under number 1. This is normal. If you want it to not try to boot from the floopy first, set #1 to disabled and #2 to IDE Hard Drive.

So that you can boot from a floppy in the future, I suggest setting #1 to floppy and #2 to IDE Hard Drive. If you have no floppy inserted, the BIOS will not find one and continue on to boot from the Hard Drive.

Hope this helps.:)

Meant to add this in prior post:

Just go down to #2 and press Enter, should display the model of your HDD.

ALL of them say removable drive!!!

I choose floppy for first one, then hit down and the rest automatically fill up to say floppy

That is a bit scary.

Two things you could try. In the same Boot section, just below those entries, there should be one called Reset Configuration Data. Try setting this to Yes. Save and exit.

Or, in the Exit menu there should be an entry called Load Setup Defaults. Try that and save and exit to see if your boot options reappear.
