Hi guys

Here is a good one for you. One of my relatives has just been scammed into buying a second hand computer, here are the specs as far as I can determine:

AMD K6 400MHz Processor
Intel Triton 440 Motherboard
64MB SDRAM
2x SD Slots
4x EDO Slots
External Modem running from the parallel port
PCI Soundblaster Soundcard
13GB Hard Disk

It has, however, no USB slots and the keyboard is an old AT connector with the mouse being serial connection. She was given an Epson c45 USB Printer FREE?!?! (No prizes for guessing why?) It has one Parallel port free.

Now since this computer has no USB ports on board I accessed the BIOS and enabled the USB, booted the computer and allowed Windows 98SE to install the USB Root Hub Drivers. I then shut it down and installed a PCI USB2.0 Card. When it came to turning it on there was nothing, no startup... the computer turned on but nothing happened, no monitor turning on, no hard drive activity, nowt... If I take the card out the computer works fine... :(

I have checked all connections and everything is sound.

Any suggestions will be extremely welcome!!

Thanks guys!!!!

Sounds like the drivers from win98 are not compatible with your card. Try removing the card, rebooting, go to device manager and uninstall the drivers. Then shut down, install your card, power up, and when Windows finds the card install the drivers that came with the card.

Thanx for the reply,

Unfortunately, I have already tried that. I have uninstalled the device driver from Windows and attempted to reboot with the card in... the PC will not even send the signal to the monitor to turn on, no POST, nothing - just the light for power.

Any other ideas?

Time to play the reset all the cards game.....unplug and reseat every PCI card, also check all the internal cable connections, etc.
