This is very strange but I am sure someone will have an idea. Lexmark Z52 printer.....only prints pictures and headers......no text. Tried it on web pages, word doc and the printers own "test page". On the test page you get the Microsoft logo on the top left hand side but nothing else. Down loaded and installed latest drivers, no change. Now I'm stuck.

If that is a dual cartridge printer ( 1 Multi color and 1 Black) it sounds like the black isn’t working.
Due to contact or ink level

Have you attempted to remove and reinstall the ink cartridge

Thanks Rick
The cartridge indicator suggests it is almost full. I will remove it and replace it again to see if it makes any difference

I believe Lexmark has a program for cleaning the print heads too, I would run that...

I had a Lexmark Z52 once- Printed great text and Photos, but did tend to be sensitive to ink clogs etc.
A few things-
Depending on the driver, sometimes the cartridge indicators don't mean squat unless they are "re-set", so the black cartridge may very well be empty as Rick noted.

Secondly, run the cleaning utility within the driver, several times if necessary as Budfred suggested. If the Printer goes unused for any length of time, I noticed the print heads can get clogged easily...Sometimes you need to resort to gently dabbing the actual print heads with warm water and blot dry....You will see some nice ink residue on the towel if there is in fact any left.

And last but not least- Not sure what OS you are using, but I found the Lexmark downloaded ("unsigned")driver at the time to be extremely buggy and ended up getting rid of all traces of it and using the default XP PRO driver.

There- How's that for a lot of talk about very little? :p

I had the Z52 also and clogging ink cartridges is a big problem with them, specially if you are just the casual home user like me. Another thing I've found is that for any of my printers to work I have to tell the computer to print directly to the printer, no spooling. Depending on your OS it's Start>Settings>Printers, highlight your printer then right click and choose properties. On the advanced tab you will see the option to print directly to the printer. Another thing I remember the Lexmark needing is it's heads aligned, there is a program in it to do just that so you might want to try that too. As Jabar said those gages don't mean a tootin thing, you need to keep an eye on the ink levels yourself. I ran out of ink several times before I learned that. Hope you get it worked out. LG:)

Thanks for all your good advice and help
I have to add here that this was on a neighbours computer. When she inserted the new ink cartridges, she forgot to remove the protective film from the black cartridge..........
What can I say ?

Now why the heck didn't I think of that! :(

Thar's the way I'm going from now on....I'm going to save me a TON of money on ink cartridges! ;) :D
