SMART test failure
Things already done:
Restored Track 0
Restored system files
Disabled SMART in bios
Ran Windows ME emergency diskette
-Interesting thing: Not even the emergency boot disk will run windows. Could this be a controller problem rather than the actual hdd?
only OS I could get running is the DR-DOS used for the diagnostics program on the Maxtor diskette. This all happened suddenly, one day everything is smooth and clean, next day, OS won't boot. I reach the ME splash screen, and it halts.
Any ideas?

SMART is supposed to predict hard drive failures...you said you got the Maxtor diagnostics to run, what were the results?

It sounds like it may have gone belly-up.
