I put a new mother board in my friends computer about a week ago. We got all the bugs worked out and it runs great. He took it home and everytime it sits for a long period of time it shuts itself down. Other than that he has not had one problem with it. I have not been over to his house to help him, but I thought someone might be able to give me some ideas what to look for when i go there. Could it be something in the bios or windows xp itself.

It is made up of:

1700 amd
motherboard- k7sem
antec power supply
256 sdram
40 gig western digital
generic modem
onboard video and audio
windows XP

Thank you in advance

First thing I would check for is the power management settings and then heat. For power management, check in BIOS and in Windoze settings.

First place to look is in the bios
Check the system temp's and fan speeds ( health monitor )
Second check the auto sleep mode settings

As if the system is active or idle when it shuts down

If the power light is still on it might just be going into hibernation.
Ive seen some that take forever to wake up from hibernation and the people using them didnt have a clue waht was happening with them, and couldnt figure out why repeatedly pressing the button wouldnt turn the comp on.
