Evening PC Guiders!
I've just had a look at an old computer which is doesn't seem to be recognising the ps2 mouse.
When its switched on, a dialogue box appears saying that the ps2 mouse hasn't been detected, please insert a serial mouse. I have tried a different mouse so I know the mouse isn;t the problem.
Nothing has been changed in the comp recently so I'm baffled to what could be causing the problem.
The bios has ps2 support enabled.
Any ideas??
Thanks

Hi there Exit
Before you will be able to get proper support/help you will have to post more info on computer (OS etc)
But something to go on with.
It could be a driver conflict.
Boot into safe mode and go to Device Manager and remove any and all reference to a mouse/mice there. Then shutdown computer and reattach the mouse and re-boot to see if it is found then.

Hi Thanks.
Its a 450Mhz processor running windows 98. It seems to be an old machine as the keyboard has a Din 5 connector. I think the PS2 connectors on the machine come from a PCI or ISA card. Will check it out. It may be that the PCI or ISA PS2 card is fried? Possible?

Possible, but may simply be loose or dirty. I would do the driver clean up, but I would also take the card out, clean it and reseat it well. You might want to clean out the PCI slot before putting the card back too.

Hi again
I've just checked the ps2 card, and its an ATX Form Card with a 1 ps2 port, 1 IR port and a USB port. It's neither PCI or ISA, some sort of small cable connects it to the Mobo.
When the comp is turned on, I checked in Device Manager (by the keyboard) and the Mouse has the yellow exclamation. The proper drivers are installed, it's more a case of the mouse not being seen through the ATX Form card.
Any ideas?
