Scenario:
Asus Motherboard MEB-VM with Celeron 433
and 256 MBytes of ram, OS is Win98.
This motherboard has an onboard VGA port,
and I want to install a riser card to
increase overall performance in graphics.

Problem:
I tried to install a Riva TNT2 Model 64
graphics accelerator card in the open
AGP slot. I went into Phoenix Bios 4.0
and set the VGA to AGP setting - no good.
I tried to install the software and drivers
for the card - no good, not detected.
I tried to disable the onboard VGA by
the VGA_EN jumper on motherboard, and then
rebooted hoping drivers would load - no good.

Any combinations of, or changing the order of
the processes involved - no good.
I have tried to contact ASUS support, I am
waiting to hear back from them.

Is their an answer to be had here?

Sincerely,
Phil Johnson

I would download the latest BIOS version and aflash from www.asus.com.tw (http://www.asus.com.tw) and install the BIOS written for the board by the manufacture. I have dealt with ASUS support before and they are not too bad, a bit slow to respond to the first email by a lot quicker on the subsequent emails. The first thing they will advise you is to download the latest version of pcprobe and will ask waht bios version you are using.

Hope this helps.

I went out to the HP site and got their OEM upgrade for the bios.
After the upgrade to the bios, I took the card out and used an eraser
to clean off the contacts and then used alcohol to clean it up nicely.

The unit then booted like a charm, I got the drivers loaded, and voila`!
I never looked at the OEM side of things - my mistake!
