I have a internet ps/2 keyboard. I can access all the "hot keys" but none of the letter keys. I bought a new keyboard, I plugged it into the ps/2 keyboard slot and it does the same exact thing. So I then plugged it in to the USB slot and it still does the same thing. I can not type anything, but i can use the hot keys to bring up internet related things, e-mail, web page, ect ect. I also took out the cmos battery for about 20 minutes and put it back in. Please HELP !
What version of Windows are you using?

I am using win xp I have installed the software for the keybord, uninstalled and re installed.
I do not know if this helps, but recently someone brought a computer to me which had a similar problem. The user complained that the keyboard did not work, I tested it and it was ok.
So after so investigation I found the problem to be related to the Accessability feature in windows XP. The settings for the keyboard repeat was set so slow that it took a minute or two for a keystroke to register (making the keybaord appear as not working). It may not apply here, but it maybe just worth checking those settings (assumming the mouse still works).

Thank you ...That was the solution accessibilty Options in WIN XP.
Most of the time the software for the keyboard is what enables the "extras" the basic function is provided by Windows. You could also try removing the keyboard from device manager and rebooting. that should reinstall the basic drivers for it.
Glad to hear it was a simply fix.
