Hi gang,

I haven't had a problem with my PC for a while and then all of a sudden I keep getting this error message when I boot up my PC. It reads something like this error in 0028:C00D0EAE in VxD due to 0028:C00152F2 in VxD.

What does it means and how can I fix this?

Thanks,
Sylvie

This the msg that I get

An exception 0E has occurred at 0028:C00D0EAE in VxDthis called from 0028:C00152F2 in VxD. I have also looked through the Microsoft support but found nothing that matched this.

Thanks,

My puter just hit the two year anniversary mark, and I got a fatal exception this morning on bootup. MS page of fatal exceptions (http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q150/3/14.asp) and it has a link to a list for 98 and ME. I see neither your 0028, nor my 015 on the main list, but did see a couple of articles pertaining to 0028 on the list for 98. One for a Corel CD creator, and one for an antivirus program..neither compatible with 98. Have you recently installed anything?

Hi, Kay, Sylvie

I've also searched for this one to no avail.
This error appears to be related to a Virtual Device Driver. Unfortunately as you probably already know, these errors can be caused by a multitude of different problems.

Anyway, in my travels I found a few troubleshooting tips.

Run a virus scan on your system, as a virus in Win.com or Command.com can cause these errors.

Check for conflicts in Device Manager. (best in safe mode) hmmm! wonder if will show up if you boot into safe mode.

Also, you could boot-up selecting Bootlog.txt from the boot menu, which should highlight any drivers not loading properly. Bootlog.txt is stored in C: (I think you need to have Show all files selected to see it.
The problem driver should be the last on the list.

This probably won't help you one bit, but I hope it does.
I will be following this one with interest.

Thanks, geebee, I forgot about bootlog..duh. It booted up fine this morning, and I suspect in my case it may have more to do with the system aging some...like perhaps the PS. Do have a UPS, but our power out here is so very erratic, and doubt if the PS was very high quality to start with. We'll be purchasing another PS soon...we thought we had an extra, but a certain puter parts place sent us the wrong kind. And the RAM could be getting bad according to that 98 error page.

Think it is the VMM32.vxd or something file that has a whole group of drivers that Windows choses from when it loads. My understanding is that if a program has been "deleted" as opposed to removed, it can mess up the choices Windows makes on what to load. Or an incompatible program can do the same...confuse Windows, so to speak. So my question, Sylvie , still stands...have you added or removed any programs/peripherals lately?

Yep, Kay...that is VMM32.vxd...it is "built" when Win is installed so it is unique to each computer and configuration, and if something is just deleted then VMM32 may not get properly updated (among many others) and problems will arise.

Here (http://home.nyc.rr.com/li168/fatlexer.htm) is another page listing various errors...

This (http://support.microsoft.com/support/windows/topics/errormsg/emresctr.asp) is an interesting MS link.
