Hi,

I have a PS/2 mouse and a Keyboard connected using a DIN connector to a INTEL 810e chipset motherboard. The problem is mouse is not working once it has booted into the OS. I have a dual boot system(WinXP and Redhat9.0) with PIII 1GHz processor. Actually the problem started when the CMOS battery dried up. So i changed the battery but the problem still exists. Sometimes the mouse moves a bit then hangs up and also sometimes the keyboard also hangs up. This is seen in both the operating systems. When i take up the mouse the keyboard works without any problem. Give some clues so that i can resolve the problem. Should i need a BIOS upgrade or the PS/2 port have gone bad?

Have you reset your BIOS settings since you replaced the battery?

Does it work in BIOS?

Yes i have reset the BIOS after replacing the battery. The keyboard works fine in the BIOS but if i boot into the OS(either in WinXP or Linux) and i have the mouse connected the keyboard also gives problem sometimes.

The mouse which gives problem in my system is working fine in other systems. So i guess there is no problem with the mouse and i also checked with a serial mouse but its working fine.
