thter may be shorting in mother board firstly check the 12v supply of cpu fan, if it is ok then check other supply for shorting. You can check the shorting by a simple multimiter.set mm in continuty range and put the +prode to supply terminal and -prode to ground if you find low resistance ther will be shorting in that supply check one by one supply. during this test power switch must be of.Good luck

Some more info might help. Did you have a power surge or lightning nearby when this happened? Does the case have lots of dust and lint inside, especially the CPU fan? Heat or power problems usually cause the kind of shutdown you described. Upendra is on the right track, a short could be possible too, but not likely if the machine was up and running normally.
Pull the memory chip(s) and video card and reseat them, other cards as well. Another thig to try is take everything out and try it as a bare bones syatem on a non-conductive tabletop. This will test for a short, and much easier if you don't know much about using a multimeter. You need only motherboard, CPU, memory, video card and keyboard. Turn on power only long enough to be sure you either have power and video or don't. Try it with both power supplies, and if you don't get power and video I'd think it's a good possibility the motherboard has been damaged. If the CPU fan does not work and you do have indications that it is getting power, don't let it run more than about 10 seconds. The P-II 233 should handle it for that long...
You can test it with different CPU, memory and video card, but that implies spare parts available to test with...might turn out to be necessary to have a reputable computer shop test the motherboard...
