Hi, i copied a large amount of files to a CDRW disk. now i want to access these files by copying them back to my hard drive, i am having trouble. when i right click on the folders on the disk i look at the properties and it says READ only. when i try to disable this by unchecking the READ only box and hit apply a box pops up telling me there is an error accessing files. when i right click on the disk which is E: and look at properties it also says READ only. when i right click the disk and choose copy i am not able to copy my files from the disk.

any help appreciated

thanks

I don't think you can change the properties of the files while they are on the CD-RW. You need to copy them back to your harddrive, then change the properties.

Yes, you have to change the READ ONLY attribute after copying the files back to the hard drive.

Hi all and thanks for replying. I can't copy the files from the cdrw disk to my hard drive. An error keeps popping up saying "Cannot read from the source file or disk".

any more suggestions?

thanks

Can you get the files to show up in Expleorer?

If you can see the files then at least the directory structure of the disk is ok. But that sounds like you may have corrupted files or a scratched disk.

A UDF (Universal Disk Format) formatted CD-RW has to be in a CD-RW drive to be able to write to it and to change the properties.

Also you need to have UDF software installed, such as In CD or Direct CD. The CD-RW will then be treated like any floppy or hard drive and you will be able to read and write to the files and change their attributes.

I had a similar problem. I can tell you what I did to correct it--I don't know if this will solve your problem or not but if the advice you got from the other members doesn't work, you can try this:
Double click My Computer, right click on the drive icon and click on Properties/click on the Recording tab and put a check mark where it says "Enable CD Recording on this Device." Your problem might be entirely different that what I had, but it's worth a try.
