My brain has been racked long enough on this problem. What I need to do is take papers that have writing on both sides and scan them to where they have the same writing on both sides in their electronic version. We're also wanting to be able to edit them (OCR) on-screen. We currently have two multi-page scanners (a Visioneer One Touch 8655 and a Memorex - not sure of the model number). We are looking to buy a third one to be dedicated to this one job. Do any of you know of a way to manipulate scanning to do this, or do any of you know of a good scanner that can allow this to be done. I hope I haven't been vague about my needs on this. All help is much appreciated. Thanks.

I am not sure I do understand. If you are trying to scan both sides of a page and then print it out on both sides of a paper, that is a function of the word processor after you do whatever editing you want to do. Most scanners come with OCR software, so it is probably just a matter of doing the scanning and then putting the two sides together.
If you are talking about doing this with a large number of pages at the same time, that is a much trickier question and I don't have any idea how to do that. You will probably need a document feeder that can scan both sides of the page, after that, it is still a matter of the word processor putting the two sides together.

Are you trying to set things up so that you can be viewing both sides simultaneously on screen...???

If I understand you correctly you cannot do it.
You must scan seperate pages.
When doing OCR into word (or whatever program you use) just make it one continuous document. If saving as seperate "Photo's then save them as 1 my doc - 2 my doc. This will keep the pages in the correct order.
To view both sides of and OCR'e document on your desktop at the same time go to print preview and set it for 2 pages at a time. This will let you see what it looks like but not actually print it. When printing the completed doc select only ODD pages and when finished tha reinsert the page to printer an dselect print only EVEN pages. You will now have printed document as you require.
You can get get scanners that scan both side of a documnet, sorry I do not know makes, but they are expensive.

Thanks to both of you for your help. I just bought a duplex scanner to do this for me. To be honest, I'm not exatly sure what they want me to do either, but I'll figure it out as I go. If anybody's interested, I bought a Fujitsu ScanSnap. It's priced at $495, and it scans both sides of the paper at once (hence "duplex"). I haven't used it yet so don't take this as a recommendation of the product. Thanks again for the help.
