Since thoes four words appeared my system does not currently exist. A few phone calls did provide information of a hopful knowledgable??? sort but as the informant was "late" his words the advice was rather cryptic and rushed. How do I short out the bios on my PII intel mother board?

Hello Jemcutterb and welcome to the PC Guide http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

First, try this:

Boot the pc with a Start-up floppy disk (make sure the write-protection tab is in use {you should have a hole there}). At the a: type fdisk /mbr making sure to have a space after the k and before the / and hit Enter. Remove the floppy and reboot the system. This will re-write your master boot record and maybe eliminate the virus.

To clear the CMOS you will have to find the appropriate jumper on the mobo...for that you will to have a look at the manual. Use the bios string located (usually) at the bottom of the first POST screen and go to Wim's BIOS (http://www.wimsbios.com/) and follow the instructions there on how to ID your mobo. If you have the case off and can get a good look at the mobo you can use one of the ID tools at Mobot (http://iceberg.pchomeworld.com/cgi-win/mobotGen/mobot.asp) to assist you.

If you cant find the jumper on the motherboard, you can clear the CMOS by removing the battery. Leave the system for 2 hours, replace the battery and reboot.
