My newly assembled Athlon/Gigabyte 7DXR suddenly refuses to recognize either HD. The HD's are not recognized by the bios set-up under auto-detect nor when booting from the boot floppy. Checked both drives on another system and both are recognized properly and the drive with the OS boots properly. Jumpers are OK and drives properly connected.

The bios will recognize CDR and CDROM. Is this a bios related problem? I did get, a couple of times a chksum error but I re-set the bios. What can I try next???

If you have both hard drives set up on the same cable on, let's say IDE 0, try putting the CD drives on that channel and the hard drives on IDE 1...if they are not detected try swapping the cable with the CDs...yeah the CD cable is probably just a 40 wire cable but for testing purposes it should be ok (also some Ultra ATA drives require the 80 wore cable), put the cable from the CDs and the HDs in IDE 0. If the cable swap doesn't work or if the CDs are not detected RMA the board....

The only option not tried was changing the cables! swapped to other Ultra ata cables and works fine! goes to show: leave no stone unturned! Thank you for your help.
