I'm helping a friend of mine who is having problems
with internet explorer/Nescape. No problem connecting
to the server. But he is not able to display the
page. I had tried both IE and Netscape but the same
problems.According to him it works before. It happened
after he bought a new Philip 17" monitor. But he also
said that his system ocassionally hang even before
purchasing the new monitor.I tried using my monitor
at home but still same ocurrances.

And there is always illegal operations box displayed.
Here's the details:

He is using win98 with 64M of ram. I had also tried unchecking
all programs at start up using msconfig except systray and scanreg.
Had uninstall communications files and reinstalled.Cleared cache files.
Change mouse pointer speed to slow.He is using Logitech.Reinstall
TCP/IP. Reinstalled win98. Still the above problems persist.

Can anybody be kind enough to help me go thru' this dilemma.
Thanks.

When he added the new monitor di he remove the old one in device manager? in Safe Mode?

Also chect the video card drivers, monitor drivers, etc.and if there are any conflicts in device manager.

Does he have access to another stick of memory? You may want to try swapping mem......

And BTW i forgot to mentioned that moving around other
programs pose no problems.
It is only when IE browser/Netscape is executed then
the error message is displayed.

Hi mjc. I had already removed the old monitors driver
thru' safe mode. Not only that i also removed all other
devices that are detected twice and some even five times
like the cdrom and let windows reinstalled after restart.

I'll give the ram idea a try. I happened to have one now.
I'll be back.Just hold on there for a while.

Thanks./

Hey,

Try running the Internet Explorer Repair Tool. Go to Start/Run and type "SFC", without the quotes. The repair tool should be the first one listed on the Tools menu in the dialog box that pops up.

Good luck.
