I have GE optical mouse that is plugged into the PS/2 port on my computer. Whenever I am just using my computer, thw mouse is working just fine then suddenly jumps across the screen. It happens around 10 times an hour. In case this helps, I am using windows xp and have a FIC AU13 motherboard. Thanks

If it is a wireless mouse, try relocating the transmitter. If it is wired, probably a good idea to check your mouse settings and/or Remove and reinstall the mouse drivers....

What surface are you using the mouse on? I had similar trouble with an optical mouse when used on a slightly reflective multicolour surface.

Try taking the ball out (you will see small "door" on the underside) and cleaning the rollers inside (use eyebrow tweezers to do ). Over time they usually get clogged up with fluff.

The surface I am using the mouse on is a slightly reflective desk and it does have some color changing in the pattern. I will try to find a spare mousepad laying around or go buy one. Thanks for your help.

You should probably check that it isnt a driver issue first by uninstalling/reinstalling the drivers before you go forking out even just a few bucks for a mousepad.

Or just take a piece of dark paper and put it under the mouse to check it out. If it works ok that way, it is probably the reflection that is the problem.
