I was using a Epson 440 printer and a Dexxa 4800 scanner linked by a pass thru to the parallel port of a Pentium 166 and both worked well. But after I disconnected them to move into another room, the printer would only work when connected directly to the parallel port but not thru the scanner. The scanner won't work at all.
I get an error message "your scanner is not connected to your computer". I've checked all connections, reinstalled both scanner and printer software and Omnipage. Also downloaded a driver from Dexxa - but it turned out to be the same as the one I've got.
Can someone help please.
Try swapping the cables. You may have put a standard parallel cable between the scanner and computer instead of a bi-directional cable.

Hello julie scorer,
Welcome tohttp://www.pcguide.com/ubb/pcgubb.gif Forums!
You might want to have a look here:

Also, I would go into SAFEMODE and check on Device Manager for (!) or (?)...
I'm trying to remember when I had a pass through using an HP printer...it seemed to me that it worked best if I did not have the combination connected when I first installed. I seem to recall doing the printer first and then shutting down and connecting the scanner...
I think there was something about individual recognition rather than trying to locate and install them at the same time...

Reid,
The cable is the same one I was using before moving the computer. Anyway
I swapped the cable but it didn't help.
Whizman,
There's a lot in those articles you mentioned. I'm not sure I understand
all the jargon but I'll read them again and see if I can do something. Will let you know.
Meanwhile I've gone into Safe Mode - nothing unusual there.
P.S. Did the article say "DISable bi-directional...??

Just to let you guys know what has happened.
I tried things every which way but nothing helped. So finally I removed both the printer and scanner and re-installed each one separately.
Now each one works but only when the other one is not attached. I guess that's the best I can get.
Thanks for your help.
